Character and temperament

It is not only their looks that make this breed so lovable – above all it is their character, whose fascination hardly ever lets go of a Birman owner.
Birmans are very affectionate and people-oriented. They always want to be with their humans, follow you to the loo and, of course, into bed. Once they have chosen their favourite person, that person receives all their love and attention, but THEY also need a lot of love and attention. That is why you should never keep a Birman on its own, unless you are not working, a homemaker or retired. Birmans make friends with every living creature, whether it is another cat, a toddler or a big dog. The best choice, of course, is a feline playmate.
However, every proud Birman owner should know
that you need to raise your Birman lovingly but firmly and consistently.
Birmans are very intelligent and they are brilliant at manipulating their owners and turning them into slaves ;)
Although they sometimes get up to all sorts of mischief, Birmans are a rather calm breed. They are easygoing and radiate cosiness.
This is also what my cattery name is meant to express:
the cosy one = die gemütliche Eine!
the cosy Beauty = die gemütliche Schöne!

Origin

Legend has it that the Sacred Birman came into being when the soul of a deceased monk passed into a temple cat. This happened in the region of the Lugh mountains, which lie in the border area of India, China and Thailand.
It is documented that the breed was already recognised in France in 1925.
In the following years the breed flourished in Germany, with breeding concentrated in and around Berlin. Sadly, the Sacred Birman population in Europe was greatly reduced by the Second World War.
By 1955 there were enough Birmans in France again, and a pair was exported to England.
In 1966 the Sacred Birman was recognised in England.
The first Birman pair came to the USA from France in 1959.
In 1964 the grandmother of the German Birmans, „Nadine de Khlaramour“, was imported from France to Germany. She produced numerous offspring at the „von Assindia“ cattery.
